What’s a song that changed your life?

Well obviously this week it’s Jamie Miller’s ‘Baby Doll! That song is everywhere at the moment and has had me singing and shrugging (if you know ‘the dance’) around the house for days!

But, thinking a little more profoundly it would be ‘What a feeling (Flashdance)‘ from the film Flashdance. Let me take you back …

Picture this. I was 17 when I went to the cinema to see this and at a bit of a crossroads in life, trying to decide whether or not to apply to a top UK University. It was a dream to go but suddenly felt very daunting and overwhelming.

By chance, whilst the context was completely different, these feelings and fears chimed exactly with those in the movie and so it really hit home.

That very night, with the lyrics ‘Take your passion and make it happen‘ ringing around in my head, I decided to go for it, take the risk, try my best but, most importantly of all, not allow being scared to be a valid opt out reason.

Life changing for that event but also as a changed mindset for life.
